excellent work that reflects the artists’ most
creative side, done without the constraints of
marketability in mind.
The vision of Gallery 1261 is one
of enhanced freedom in the experience of art for
both artists and appreciators of art, meaning it is
driven not by commercial tastes or market standards,
but rather by pure expression and artistic talent.
Gallery 1261 is the brainchild of
artist Quang Ho who wanted a place where artists he
knows and admires can show the work that is truly
important, done without constraints of marketing
strategies and sales quotas.
“It’s about the art. It’s about
pure artistic expression. It’s about the work an
artist creates for his own soul. Pure. Genuine.
Expression.” —curator, Quang Ho

Plinth Gallery
Curator: Jonathan Kaplan
3520 Brighton Blvd
Denver, Colorado 80216
map
phone: 303-295-0717
website:
www.plinthgallery.com
Hours: Thursday -Saturday, 12pm-5pm, and
other times by appointment
Plinth Gallery is a unique venue in Colorado exhibiting a well
curated collection of contemporary ceramic art, representing both
national as well as international ceramic artists. Five solo
exhibitions of invited artists are presented each year. In
architecture, a plinth is the base or platform upon which a column,
pedestal, statue, monument or structure rests. In Gottfried Semper's
"The Four Elements of Architecture" (1851) one element, the plinth,
exists to negotiate between a structure and the ground. Plinth
Gallery conceptualizes that very definition of a platform or base
referencing one of the essential concepts in ceramic work,
“centering” on a potter's wheel. Those artists selected for
exhibitions at Plinth Gallery successfully exploit that idea of the
"negotiation between structure and ground" by the artful
manipulation of material organized in both traditional and abstract
ways. While the idea of the vessel can be defined by containment, it
is precisely it's content that gives the work meaning and inviting
of inquiry or dialog. |

Voted Westword's best gallery for contemporary art of the
region, 2017
“Bill Havu is
celebrating fifty years on the Colorado art
scene. He’s been on a five-decade trajectory
that has taken him from a humble Aspen frame
shop to a swank Denver gallery. For the past
half-century, William Havu—known as Bill Havu to
everyone—has emphatically made his presence
known in Colorado’s art world. This longevity
is, on its surface, a remarkable accomplishment
by itself. But digging deeper, and taking into
account the vagaries of the art business, his
durable success is even more amazing than it
seems. Art is subject to radical and sudden
shifts in taste, not only in terms of style, but
right down to preferred medium at any given
moment. Not to forget, there’s the problems
common to all small businesses—relentlessly
rising expenses along with the ups and downs of
the larger economy. Bill must have had ice water
in his veins to have not just survived, but to
have flourished through it all.”
